🧶Old Timey Ways People Used Doilies
(that I will have a problem with)

➡️Antimacassars were doilies used on chairs and sofas so men who used Macassar oil on their hair wouldn't leak onto the furniture fabrics.

😱So leaking oil on the doilies was nicer???

➡️Small doilies were used as coasters so the nice furniture didn't get water stains.

😱Now we need to wash those doilies...again. Who's to say the condensation won't go through the doilies anyways? Ugh. Double problem.

➡️Sewing doilies or lace onto hankies

😱I love the look, yes, but then what? These hankies are what I see most at the flea markets. They were beautiful in their heyday, but how were they used? Please tell me they weren't pulled out for tears or runny noses!

😍As an alternative, I suggest framing. You can use a whole doily or some pretty bits to make interesting wall art. If you know who made the doily, mark the frame with the maker & year. 💕

This is my favorite idea for a wedding or new homeowner gift. It is meaningful and less likely to get thrown in a drawer. (and no cleaning necessary!)
